Night nannying for families with 2, 3 or more newborn babies provides a very similar service to night nannying for singleton babies. My focus is to encourage all the babies into a similar routine to make feeding and sleeping simultaneous allowing mum to have as much rest as possible. It is possible for a mother to breastfeed 2 or more babies and I can give you some ideas and support on how to achieve this. To breastfeed triplets it is commonplace to mix breast and bottle. It may be that you want to be actively involved during the night feeds and would just like an extra pair of hands. Multiple babies tend to be of a lower birth weight and quite often are in hospital for a few days or even a few weeks after birth, therefore the time period between feeds will be significantly less than a singleton baby. I can come to help care for your babies overnight at any stage helping to establish a routine or follow one already in place. It is usual for multiple babies to take longer to sleep through the night although if they are all of very healthy weights there is no reason why they shouldn’t be treated any different to a singleton baby.
During my nights with your babies I will give them their feeds, or bring a baby or two babies to you for a breast feed. I will wind and settle them afterwards. My aim is to allow you to sleep as much as possible however if you are trying to achieve a feeding pattern where all your babies are being fed at the same time I may need you to be around to feed too. I will also sterilise any feeding equipment and prepare any feeds for the following day. I will also ensure all your babies are washed and dressed ready for the day before I leave in the morning unless you would prefer for me to leave them asleep. I feel it is essential to have a feeding log when caring for multiple babies to ensure each baby gets enough feeds in 24 hours.
I am not responsible for domestic cleaning, laundry or caring for older siblings whilst Night nannying. It is expected that some form of sleeping accommodation shall be provided, a spare bed, blow up mattress or sofa. I may require the use of a baby monitor if your babies’ room is far away from where I am sleeping. I am happy to share a room with your babies’, however if we are trying to establish a routine teaching your babies’ to fall asleep and stay asleep in their own room this arrangement would not be suitable. Similarly if your babies’ are under 12 weeks old I prefer to have them in the same room as me.
